We met in 2010 working in the same costume department and proceeded to work together on numerous theatre productions. We bonded over pasta appreciation, the music of David Bowie, cinnamon pastries, quoting The Thick of It and of course, our love of 20th Century Fashion.
Probably, because we were so busy eating, it wasn't until some time later that we realised we both had dreams of designing and creating wedding dresses. And thus the seeds of Paper to Lace were sewn.
Our careers in costume have informed much of our work at Paper to Lace, from design to making. We use a variety of traditional methods when making our bespoke gowns, many of the techniques are typical of costume and couture and include a lot of handsewing, which makes each item all the more personal and a real heritage piece.
Our aim is to create modern wearable versions of all our favourite classic vintage styles. This can be seen in our bespoke wedding dresses (see our Brides section for more info) and variety of accessories to suit brides, bridesmaids and guests.
We are keen for our customers to feel involved in creating their perfect vision.
Let us know if there are any items you would like us to adapt, for example recreating one of our ivory fascinators in the same colour as your bridesmaids dresses, or incorporating a piece of family jewellery or fabric with sentimental value into a dress or veil.
Because all of our pieces are handmade in our London studio we are able to adapt our designs to suit our customers individual requirements.
