Probably, because we were so busy eating, it wasn't until some time later that we realised we both had dreams of designing and creating wedding dresses. And thus the seeds of Paper to Lace were sewn.
Our careers in costume have informed much of our work at Paper to Lace. We use a variety of traditional methods when making our bespoke gowns. Many of the techniques we use are typical of couture and include a lot of handsewing, which makes each item all the more personal and a real heritage piece. We find our inspiration from many sources, from 1930's Hollywood glamour, to Stevie Nicks and Karen O. The exhibitions at the V&A are always on our hitlist and we love collaborating with other creatives such as jewellery designers to influence our work.
